MUMBAI: Cricket fans can heave a sigh of relief. Captain Sourav Ganguly has knocked off a few names from the injured bowlers’ list. ‘‘As per my update Zaheer Khan, Ajit Agarkar and Anil Kumble are fit,’’ he said on Saturday evening. ‘‘But it will be clear on Monday when they will be required to submit fitness certificates. The only player who won’t be able to make it is Harbhajan Singh.’’
Ganguly, in Mumbai for a commercial shoot, also dispelled doubts raised by team psychologist Sandy Gordon about the players not being able to play to full potential because of security fears.
‘‘We are going there to do well and we have to do well. We will have to perform,’’ was the skipper’s brusque reply.
‘‘We are not worried about security. If something has to happen, it has to happen. As far as we are concerned it is another international tour for us.’’
However, given the high security cordon the team is expected to be under, the bigger challenge for the players could be to find ways to relax. ‘‘I don’t think it is going to be so bad. We will have a lot of things to do,’’ commented Ganguly.
On his own batting, Ganguly said that he does not need to make any adjustment and is not consulting anyone. ‘‘I have scored a couple of hundreds and batting quite well,’’ he said.
The skipper said a bowling coach will be appointed before the three-day camp in Kolkata next week.
